Ready to Rumble: Revolution is an example of a developer just not getting the Wii. There is a shameless march of ports and remakes the system recieves, and this is yet another. Let’s face it – the Wii is two years past launch and enough time has passed that we should be past these silly gaffes where games don’t work.
It continues to surprise me that major league publishers are signing off on titles where the controls simply make the game unplayable. Don’t believe me, try to get through the tutorial of R2R:R without giving up on at least three of the punches in sheer frustration. Of course Nintendo isn’t blameless; this little monstrosity of a game takes its queues from the granddaddy of muddy controls, Wii Sports Boxing.

Expecting each punch to take two movements of the Wii Remote or Nunchuk and have the motion sensor actually pick up one of three directions for each movement was something anyone who’s played the system can tell you is a near impossibility. So how did this make it out the door? I can’t fault the concept; if the controls worked this would be a highly effective take on arcade boxing. Instead this is an exercise in frustration.
Ready to Rumble was a successor to Punch Out, and complete with all the bad stereotypes and politically incorrect jokes, it managed to fill that niche. However, with a proper Punch Out sequel coming, Facebreaker actually being playable on the Wii, Ready to Rumble: Revolution just doesn’t seem necessary.
However, if it were playable, I imagine there are Dreamcast diehards out there who would clamor at a chance for nostalgic memories of Sega’s beloved also-ran. With the controls in such a shoddy state, there is no one that should pay to play this game.
| What Works | Score |
|---|---|
| + This title is sure to invoke fond memories in Dreamcast owners | 1.0 |
| What Doesn't | |
| - The controls on this game are so broken I couldn't play any mode without giving up in frustration | |

| The controls are broken, making this just not worth playing. | |
