Dolph Lundgren … um … do you need to know anything else?

command performance blu boxCommand Performance is a direct to video actioner starring Dolph Lundgren. That should be enough right there to tell you about as much as you need to know about the film. What makes this film noteworthy is that the star also came up with the story, co-wrote the script and directed the film. It isn’t the first film Lundgren has directed, and his craft is certainly growing in that regard. It is the script that has the problems, but not enough to give fans any pause. Command Performance certainly delivers when it needs to.

During a benefit concert in Moscow, the stadium is overtaken by terrorists. Certainly there’s an agenda and motives for the actions undertaken by the main bad guy, but they just don’t resonate with the audience – or at least me anyway. Really, we just want to see big Swede take everybody on and win. Does he? What do you think?

So what’s the big problem with the script? It’s slow. Especially at the beginning. We get far too much setup for the concert and needless character… well, it’s not exactly exposition, but things sort of circle around for a little while.

I suppose I should mention the music as it’s a major component of the film. Dolph Lundgren plays a drummer in the film, and actually rocks the kit. Former Pusycat Doll Melissa Smith is the “damsel in distress” and gets to show off her talents as well.

The Blu-ray case advertised that there are two special features, a behind the scenes look at the fights and interview with Dolph Lundgren, but the disc itself was devoid of any such special features. Oh well.

It’s a fun enough movie for fans of the Dolph Lundgren School Of Kick Assery. A lot of the takedowns don’t involve gunfire. Some of the more intense ones are quite … intense (blade, skull, you get the idea). Command Performance is an action film – either you’re interested or not. The question comes down to whether or not it’s worth watching, and for those that are fans of Dolph Lundgren, this most certainly is.
