Senseless blood and violence, you know this game has an audience

Oooh, what’s that disgusted looking chaps intestines doing all over these streets? Lets get a closer look. And that would be the enemy’s head flying off as you paraded your way through the streets.

This game delivers more of the gore that the series is already famous for. Soldier of Fortune II’s lure is decimating the dead on the street with bullets and laughing your head off while your doing it. But beyond that this is your typically FPS killing the bad guys.

Activision managed to take a great PC game and port it over flawlessly to the Xbox. If you’re fans of the 1st game this one has even more to offer. With up to 25 different weapons and the ability to hold two guns (yes I said two guns) you’ll be putting down terrorist like flies. Although stealth is recommended in some cases, I found that not necessarily is it required to do.

The AI is good, with the exception of when they get shot, they continue to come running at you. That being said, it makes it funnier to shoot them where the bullets would hurt the most.

The game features a ghoul rendering system which allows the body to be shot in 36 separate places. This allows for plenty of places to shoot and having a unique effect to be followed. Shot him in the knee watch him kneel to the ground and then shoot him in the head. It’s missing a recoil system and with so many games including this, not having one keeps it from being realistic; but this is not a major downfall as this game is fast paced.

It does have a very nice environmental damage system and manages to incorporate it effectively. Shooting barrels and watching guys in yellow parkas fall the ground is a treat. Graphics are top notch and game play is fast paced, but short. Beatable in about 20 hours or less for those of you that are experienced fps fans won’t find it very difficult to glide your way through the game.

After you’re done with single player this is one of the best online FPS games to date for the Xbox. Nothing like a fast paced online FPS to get me spending countless hours putting down other people and then telling them how crappy they are. [Oh, so that’s why the review is a little late. – Ed.] The online modes offer mostly death-match with a little capture the flag. Definitely one of the major draws to the game for those of you who are addicted to counter-strike.

Control wise it’s your basic Halo outfit so no new learning is needed. Just slide the disk in and kill ‘em all. Adjustable if need be, but otherwise ergonomic enough that with a little experience on any of the major FPS, there is no learning curve.

This game lacks the intuitive storyline, but is targeted for those of you who do not care and are only interested in killing everything that is in sight. If you are looking for an engrossing storyline to accompany the game play, I would suggest you look elsewhere.
