FROM THE PRESS RELEASE

Excitement levels have reached fever pitch in Canada as EA SPORTS™ FIFA 06 lines up to kick a winning goal straight into the hearts and homes of gamers on October 13. The launch of the 2006 version of EA’s best-selling soccer franchise marks the start of Canada’s Xbox Live® qualifying tournament of the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2005 (FIWC 2005), the world’s only FIFA-sanctioned global video game competition.

From now through November 11, Xbox Live members can register to enter the fierce online competition of the FIWC 2005 Xbox Live Tournament at www.xboxfiwc.com. More than 70 participants in Canada will earn a prize package which could include: an Xbox 360™ console, copies of EA SPORTS FIFA 06, three- and 12-month subscriptions to Xbox Live for Xbox 360 and much more.

The grand prize winner from each country will receive an Xbox 360 console, a copy of EA SPORTS FIFA 06 and a trip to London on December 18 to take part in a knock-out tournament, which will yield just two online finalists from a global field of more than 2 million Xbox Live members. Those Xbox Live winners will then join the eight winners of the Regional Tournaments in the grand final of the FIWC 2005 on the same day.

The overall winner of the FIWC 2005 will be named FIFA Interactive World Player 2005 and take centre stage to receive his/her trophy among some of the biggest names in soccer at the prestigious FIFA World Player Gala in Zurich on December 19, 2005.

“We’re excited to be part of the FIFA Interactive World Cup and look forward to seeing how Canada’s best soccer gamer stacks up against the rest of the world in London on December 18,” said Craig Tullett, Xbox Platform Product Manager, Microsoft Canada. “With the 2006 FIFA World Cup quickly approaching, the release of FIFA 06 in Canada and the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2005, it’s an amazing time for Canada’s soccer fans to celebrate why ‘it’s good to play together’.”

The FIWC 2005 tournament follows last year’s inaugural competition, in which thousands of contestants from six continents battled for a place in the grand final. In the end, it was Thiago Carrico de Azevedo of Brazil, who was crowned the first-ever FIFA Interactive World Player and accepted his trophy alongside fellow countryman Ronaldinho, player of 2004, at the FIFA World Player Gala.

During this year’s FIFA Interactive World Cup, gamers will also have the rare opportunity to get a sneak peek at EA SPORTS’ next generation FIFA for Xbox 360, on which the grand final will be played.
