Although there were false rumors roughly a year ago regarding a project along these lines, apparently it has now become a reality: Konami has announced the Silent Hill franchise will be made into a motion picture. The film is to be made by Producer Samuel Hadida and Davis Films, and directed by Christophe Gans, whose previous credits include Brotherhood of the Wolf and Crying Freeman.
“Silent Hill is a groundbreaking game with an atmosphere that has mesmerized millions of gamers all over the world – it is scary and clever,” said Gans. “I am very proud to be associated with this game.”
In addition to hiring experienced filmaking talent, Konami plans to adopt an extremely hands-on approach to the film, overseeing script development, helping design the monsters and characters, and even having their tremendously talented sound team aid in the soundtrack composition.
Apparently, this is only the beginning too, as Konami has said it may be interested in bringing other franchises to the big screen, although it hasn’t specified what. In the meantime, we can all hope that with an acclaimed director already signed on to the project, Silent Hill can avoid the “videogame movie curse”
