Bayonetta is a new action title from the creator of the Devil May Cry series, as well as Viewtiful Joe. Action? How about a main character that is a witch with gun strapped to her ankles? This ups the gun play acrobatics over previous creations. Although the premise seems to be a bit thin, that may be due to the early state of its development.

So far all we have is that Bayonetta is a witch with guns and magic hair fighting weird monsters that are disguised as angels. Yeah, I guess that it seems really stupid, but the game is really nice to look at. The premise also provides plenty of setup for the action. Heck wielding two guns in her hands and two strapped to her ankles makes for a combination of four guns being fired at once.
There are some nice character designs (though Bayonetta looks too much like a model for Suicide Girls). The enemies look great, straight out of an anime horror flick. Their character models show the damage as its inflicted.
Bayonetta’s long hair serves as a summoning power that allows her eviscerate her enemies. It actually ends up being a really cool effect, The hair becomes this swirling mass of inky blackness that takes the form of torture devices, or other violent implements. There are some additional skills like bullet time to allow Bayonetta to assume her role as an action hero.

Look, this is going to be a cheesy game, for sure. As long as you don’t over think this game, it looks to be stupid fun. Bayonetta is a great looking game that totally channels anime horror, but it may need a little work to be engaging. The cheesy nature of the action may not be for everyone though.
