While the Wii remote may not seem like the ideal controller for fighting games, it got a pretty decent one early on in its life in the form of 4-player fighter Naruto: Clash of the Ninja Revolution. Although this was merely a port of the GameCube game, it managed to draw its own crowd and become a success in its own right.

Now, developer 8ing has brought the formula back for a sequel designed specifically for US audiences – the game isn’t even intended for release in Japan. The game will feature over 30 characters, including alternate form characters (like Ultimate Nine-Tailed Naruto) and with a focus on characters that are popular with US audiences.

In addition, 8ing has consulted tournament players for suggestions on changes to make to the gameplay to make for a more balanced game, with subtle but important changes like the option to turn on or off the breakable objects in the game’s 15 two-tiered stages. Also, 8ing has added some fun new features like Wiimote “hand signs” similar to those in the anime.

Naruto fans and fighting game fans on the Wii are both in for a treat when the game is released a few months from now. In the meantime, I suppose you’ll have to just keep practicing those “hand signs”, just like I do every time someone cuts me off in traffic.
