The Wii isn’t exactly known for gritty titles, and there are lots of complaints about the lack of “core” gamer titles. I’m going to take a moment to go off on a tangent here, and thank the zeitgeist as a whole for dropping the term hardcore game. I always got pictures of Ian Mackaye playing Counterstrike in a darkened basement, and that is an image I could have done without. Anyway, No More Heroes proved that the Wii could be a fine home for “core” games, and Suda 51, being no slouch, delivered a solid experience. Mad World is taking the next shot at the same style of game.

Where No More Heroes was said to be a stylized title, MadWorld proves that that statement should really mean something. With graphics that look almost straight out of the Sin City movie, this game looks like a comic book come to life. The horrific violence that made No More Heroes a b-movie styled masterpiece is here again in MadWorld. This title has chainsaws ripping people in half, and everything goes right over the top.

There is a bear story present in the game, as your character is being forced to fight for his life in a game show. To add to this effect there is a constant play by play from a pair of announcers that for the 30 minute demo, didn’t spend too much time repeating themselves. The announcers give the game a great sense of humor.

MadWorld is part of a minority of Wii titles, crude offensive and exceedingly violent, MadWord will be a must get title for Wii owners that will be passing on the mini game fare and are looking for something different. MadWorld may be different for different sakes, but Wii owners should take what they can get.
