Rainbow Studios worked on ATV Offroad Fury 2 for Sony, which naturally published the game for the PS2 (it being a first party title). Rainbow was purchased recently by THQ, so while Sony owns the rights to the game, THQ owns the studio. While that’s all important background, it’s what’s really important is that the game is a decent racer, and gamers world wide will be getting to play it thanks to THQ. THQ and Sony have entered into an agreement giving PS2 owners in (and this is my favorite quote from the press release) “Europe, Australia and other international territories” in September 2003.

ATV Offroad Fury 2 has 40 different tracks and 5 different types of races (Enduro, Nationals, Supercross, Freestyle, and Short Tracks). The game also features mini-games including Tag, Hockey, King of the Hills and Treasure Hunt.

“Due to the overwhelming success of the ATV Offroad Fury property in North America, we are excited to extend the franchise’s reach through our relationship with THQ,” said Shuhei Yoshida, vice president, product development, Sony Computer Entertainment America. “With this agreement, PlayStation 2 fans in Europe, Australia and other regions will have the opportunity to experience adrenaline-packed quad racing entertainment in their own living rooms.”

“Rainbow Studios has consistently delivered some of the most innovative interactive entertainment products over the past 15 years,” stated Tim Walsh, senior vice president of International Publishing, THQ. “Building on the game’s retail success in the U.S., we are extremely excited to be publishing ATV Offroad Fury 2 in international territories.”
