Dungeon Fighter Online is getting set to open its doors, just finishing up the closed beta testing and getting set for open beta testing. Is it going to be worth your time? It depends – do you like playing games? I remember the days of the arcade, plunking quarter after quarter into the machine, simply to keep that “rush” coming. Dungeon Fighter Online brings that rush back.
Players can fight alone or create a part of up to 4 players to take on the hoards of enemies. Traverse the dungeon maze, defeat the boss monster, gather loot. It’s that simple. Simplicity, however, doesn’t mean boring. It is Dungeon Fighter Online’s arcade style that makes for an exciting rush in front of the computer keyboard.
Players use the arrow keys to move around the 2.5D map, double-tapping them to run. There’s jump a couple of attack buttons, but it is the special skills and items that are assigned to hotkeys that make this game more than just another arcade style title.
There are 5 different types of character classes (Slayer, Fighter, Gunner, Mage, Priest) each with their particular strengths and combat emphasis. The Gunner, for example can later on specialize in becoming a Mechanic to create a robot to assist in clearing the various dungeons. The Priest can further specialize to become a Monk with a greater emphasis on hand to hand combat and evasive maneuvers.
Items will be gathered as players go through the dungeons, and the items can be equipped and used or stored and later sold, with the money going to purchase better equipment, such as greater armor. Think of Dungeon Fighter Online as an arcade action RPG with a heavy emphasis on the arcade action.
There are more than 20 dungeons, some can be completed quicker than others, and some tougher, naturally. There is even going to be an arena where players can fight each other for those that want to test their mettle in that way. On top of all of this there are quests to be completed as well.
The best part about Dungeon Fighter Online is that it is a free to play game. You can download the game client, try it out, and if you don’t like it, delete it. Sure, there are items to buy with real-world money if you are so inclined, but instead of a paltry demo, Nexon is giving away the full game (as it does with all of their titles) for players to have fun with. It’s a fun game that would be worth paying for on its own, but at the price being asked, how can you not try it out?
