Q & A with Dave Grossman

I sit down with designer of Monkey Island and Sam and Max for a few minutes

Digital Entertainment News: What does it feel like to get one of your most renowned titles back?

Dave Grossman: It’s nice and kind of scary. The fans had nine years to form expectations. We focused on getting the core of the franchise right. People have been telling us that we got it right. It is nice to see it out in the world again.

DEN: When developing the new seasons, what steps did you take to keep to the source material?

DG: We have a lot of people on staff that worked on the original. I was the writer and designer on the original. We also have a lot of the same artists. We replayed the older games, as well.

DEN: Are we going to see future seasons of Monkey Island?

DG: We don’t have any announced plans, but we are working on another season of Sam and Max.

DEN: What about some of the other franchises, I know you have announced the next Sam and Max, but what about future installments of Bone, or Strong Bad?

DG: There won’t be any more Bone games, our agreement ended. But Strong Bad, we liked working with the Brothers Chap. We worked very closely with them.

DEN: Are there any other franchises or licenses that you are hoping to work on?

DG: I think everything should be made into a game, like Kurt Vonnegut or P.G. Wodehouse. This is a great way to start rumors. I made a joke about Loom once. I would really like to see something original.

DEN: What do you think is the funniest game you’ve worked on?

DG: My favorite is Day of the Tentacle, but not because it’s funny. It’s just the most cohesive.
