Pixar’s Ratatouille seems to have been put out on any platform still sold in store, even some that aren’t (I’m not sure that the Apple IIe version is authorized). Stripping away a lot of the bloat that bogs down the home version, the handheld title is a solid 2-D platformer, and the cooking mini-game manages to be more fun than the actual game.
This game looks great though. The still from the movie are very well done, but the game itself looks like those old Pink Panther cartoons. The art style elevates this far above anything else out there on the GBA. However all that beaty comes at a price, Ratatouille uses a password system. I mean really did the GBA need the mini-game? That space could have been used to write a freaking save system in, and raise the price a few dollars. Just let us play the game without post-its.
One of the largest downsides to this title is that there is not a whole lot of innovation. The platform action is that same many of the other licensed titles have brought to the GBA The power of the game lies in the level design, as the various nooks and crannies of the human world provide quite the challenge for Remy to collect all the ingredients. This leads to a cooking levels, and if you were a fan of Cooking Mama, you get the idea. For those of you yet to join the cult of DS, this is as close as you are going to get. You mix ingredients into various pots to create dishes.
While Ratatouille won’t manage to engross adults for very long (beyond the cooking game), it is going to be a good game for the kids. Platformers aren’t in short supply these days but this is a better game than most. The levels are tight and the action isn’t overly complex. It is also fair to note that this version of the license is actually superior to the console versions.

| + This game really looks fantastic. For a dying platform it is just great, and really shows the value of art design over pushing pixels. | 6.0 |

| These licensed glut the GBA library and this title doesn't do much to rise above the pack. | |
