It wasn’t until the 5th episode that Lost seemed to have regained its footing. This was the first one to match the fine balance that virtually every episode in the first season had. We have a great balance between flashbacks and the current storyline and how they are tied together. Also well paced is how the progression of current events plays out. It is a shame that it took this long for the season to match what came before, but it was a welcome change.

We learn about what happened to (at least part of) the rest of the plane’s survivors. This is a much more brutal section of the overall story than we have previously seen. While the survivors we are introduced to in the first season have parts of the plane and some luggage to help them, those from the tail section had no resources.

Also in the second season as it progresses we are given an introduction to “the others” who are alluded to in the first season. This not only provides some answers to some of the mysteries presented earlier, but opens up a few new ones.

After taking a while to get up and running, the second season of Lost is fulfilling its promise of great television.
