Mimicking prime-time crime dramas hasn’t really been a video game mainstay. Most of the police realted games have stayed true to the action formula, and very little time has been given to investigation and other police procedure. Of course ther have been licensed titles, and the Pheonix Wright series took it from another angle. Unsolved Crimes tries to incorporate the drama and urgency of crime shows, along with the stock characters and terse dialog.
If you played either Pheonix Wright or Hotel Dusk, you have an idea what you’re in for. The crime scene is laid out in front of you, and you examine evidence with the stylus. What sets Unxolved Crimes apart from the other titles is that to confirm you are following the right track of reasoning, your partner will ask you a series of questions before you move on.

Each of the crimes is focused on finding a suspect, the means, motive, and opportunity. It isn’t a tough game, but the demo only showed off an early level. There appears to be some character development in the squad room; an early scene shows off the characters interacting with the tough as nails Chief who keeps trying to keep everyone on track.
This isn’t going to be a title that innovates, but it does expand these types of titles to include some good character development. The DS really has rebirthed the adventure genre in a much more accessible format, and I think this title may have some wide appeal. It does stand, that the current gameplay could get old fast, but I think the pacing can keep it interesting.
