FROM THE PRESS RELEASE
Tyson, a no-holds-barred portrait of the legendary and controversial former heavyweight champion, arrives on Blu-ray High Def and DVD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on August 18. Oscar® nominated writer/director James Toback (Bugsy)[1], who earned a special ‘Regard Knockout Award’ after last year’s Cannes Film Festival screening, directs Tyson, which is entirely narrated by the champ himself. The film tells the story of a young boy who rose from the most impoverished circumstances, soared to unlimited heights, then — like a character in a classical tragedy — was destroyed by his own arrogance and hubris.
Tyson’s bonus features include a new featurette “A Day in the Life” with Toback, red carpet premiere footage and commentary. The Sony Pictures Classics film will be available on DVD for $28.96 SRP, while the Blu-ray High-Def version will sell for $39.95 SRP.
Synopsis:
Mike Tyson examines his life in and out of the ring with candor, eloquence and a vulnerability that’s both poignant and funny, but never less than brutally honest. And through a mixture of original interviews and archival footage and photographs, a surprisingly complex, fully-rounded human being emerges. The film takes viewers on a rollercoaster ride that begins with Tyson’s earliest memories of the rough streets of Brooklyn, through his entry into the world of professional boxing at age 18, to his fall from grace through and, finally, his current attempts to fully rehabilitate himself and preserve his legend.
