And what costume shall the poor gamer wear to all tomorrow’s PAX’s?

Day 3 of PAX had a frantic pitch for me, and telling by the energy of the place, it did for everyone else. The exhibition hall was filled with people trying to get just a little more time with their favorite games of the show. I had a lot to get to so I spent most of the day getting in as much time with games as possible.
The Politics in gaming panel was a wash, as the representative from the ESA was a no-show. Gamerdad is a cool guy, but I wanted to see a discussion, not a lecture. He did reveal the Manhunt 2 was given an M now, meaning its ban has been lifted. Since he isn’t from Rockstar don’t expect any elaboration on the matter other than there are some cuts made to the game. That doesn’t surprise me, but since Rockstar didn’t have a lot to offer at PAX that could have given their booth of doom and gloom a little cheer.
Since it is the final day of PAX, I wanted to talk about the event as a whole. This really is the con for everyone that loves games. Gamer culture is as marginal as it seems, and the obsessive fanboy aside, there isn’t any single type of gamer. That is what I took away from PAX, is that everyone from the cosplayers to casual players can come and celebrate the hobby. There is just so much going on that you would be hard pressed to get everything in. Unlike E3, PAX isn’t about shoving every new game in your face in time for the Holidays. Unlike Gencon, or E for All, PAX isn’t just about one part of gaming. All types of games were celebrated. I even saw a crowd around a table for Scrabble. So for what it is worth, PAX is about what we love to do. Videogames aren’t everything, Role Playing Games aren’t everything, but sometimes it is nice to see exactly who plays games.
So thanks Mike and Jerry, or should I say Gabe and Tycho… That has to be my only disappointment of the whole show, I didn’t get to meet those guys. Like many a webcomic fan, Penny Arcade was where it began for me. On the other hand I would have embarrassed myself, totally fanboying out. So if you were there, email me with anything I may have missed, or to share your own stories. If you weren’t there, set aside some time for next year, you won’t be let down.
