Resistance 2 isn't the only title that expands the franchise, soon enough you can take your battle against the Chimera on the road. Resistance: Retribution is a new title for the PSP, developed by the Sony Bend team, the guys who brought you Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow for the PSP. Retribution doesn't retain the same FPS style of the console title, instead it uses a modified engine of Logan's Shadow. The change in perspective ...

After getting a look at N+ for the Nintendo DS and Sony PlayStation Portable, I have to say that this may be one of the best titles for either handheld – this year and perhaps of all time. I know this is a strong declaration, and a lot can happen between now and when the game is finally released, but as it stands, from what I’ve seen, N+ is an amazing game that takes ...

It should be no secret by now that I’m into the “old school” style of arcade gaming. When I had the chance to wrap my hands around a PSP with a preview copy of Super Stardust Portable, I jumped at the chance. This was pure arcade action sized to fit the PSP perfectly.
As with any arcade style game, the commands are simple. Move the ship about the playing ...

The Buzz franchise is one of the biggest hits that Sony Europe has, and they have only just recently at the end of the PS2’s lifespan brought the games to America. Out of the many attempts to bring the traditional board game feel to console games, this is one the few that nails the feeling perfectly. With the two PS2 games, and a few mini game spin offs the franchise has been established pretty ...

Blood Bowl is coming to the Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable, PC and Xbox 360. This game looks to satisfy the gamer that is looking for something a little different that what EA Sports or 2K has to offer. Essentially a football game, Blood Bowl takes the idea of the sport and strips it down to I essence – scoring points and pummeling the other team into submission.
The DS ...

Motocross involves a dirtbike on a mud track and insane stunts done in midair. ATV’s racing style is almost identical. With such complimentary natures, these sports have already shared the console spotlight in, MX vs. ATV: Unleashed. Returning to the match up THQ is bringing MX vs. ATV: Untamed to every console for Christmas.
The main attraction in this release lineup is the "next-gen" HD PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles. Even ...
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops Plus is not exactly a sequel per se, but more of a multiplayer expansion to the original. In fact Konami plans to release the game in a bonus pack with the original installment. It doesn’t really play out as a Metal Gear Solid game, as stealth is the least of your concerns. The frantic pace of the action certainly serves the canon, rather than the card game that brought ...

Wrestling used to be a hit or miss prospect in videogames. However, as physics modeling and controls get more advanced, wrestling games become a safer bet. With the WWE’s consolidation of the various brands in wrestling, their video games join the NFL license in a reliable yearly visitor. Smackdown VS. Raw 2008 is this year’s installment, bringing the over the top athletic soap opera to life.
On the "Hi-Def" systems (Xbox ...

Silent Hill was a masterpiece, building upon the horror genre with a new depth to symbolism and psychological fear, and has rightly become a phenomenon. With three sequels, another in the works and a movie tie-in, the series seems to have lost some of the original feel. Silent Hill 0 isn’t exactly a remake, but it does recreate the original feel, and suffer from some of the same flaws.
The PSP seems to be ...

There aren't a huge amount of decent strategy titles for the handhelds. This is pretty strange, because it is a genre that can take up quite a bit of time, and the ability to get something else done while you conquer the world is an asset. Well THQ is expanding the field with Warhammer 40,000: Squad Commander. There is no painting required as the miniature combat game moved to the DS and the ...

Sometimes it takes two tries for something to work right. It happened with Street Fighter, it happened with Dark Cloud, and even the incredible Burnout series didn’t really click until its third outing. And while it would be irresponsible to declare any preview build a winner, it’s hard to get your hands on Stuntman: Ignition and not come to the conclusion that it accomplishes everything the first game only dreamed of.
For those who ...

Whoever came up with the axiom "all good things come to an end" clearly never met George Lucas and his team of interactive entertainers at LucasArts. The purveyors of the Star Wars experience are extending its most popular gaming franchise, this time exclusively on PlayStation Portable. Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron ventures into new territory not only for the series, but the platform as well with impressive online features and promising action gameplay.

Having recently published some surprisingly good titles earlier this year (notably, Earth Defense Force 2017 and Puzzle Quest), D3 has become my own personal “company to watch”, and it seems like my instincts were right on the ball looking at their E3 lineup this year. In particular, Dead Head Fred seems to fit the company’s M.O. when it comes to picking unassuming games that packs in a lot of fun and originality.
With a ...

We are witnessing what could be the PSP’s “turnaround” moment. It comes for just about every handheld console. Take GameBoy Advance, for example. The platform was successful enough in its early days but none of the GBA games seemed that much more advanced, that much more ambitious, than the Game Boy Color; not really. Then, along came Final Fantasy Tactics Advance for GBA, delivering a 100+ hours of gameplay and beautiful graphics that left ...

XSeed Games first debuted about 18 months ago by bringing two much-loved RPG series back to life on PS2: Shadow Hearts: From the New World, and Wild Arms 4. The young publisher, staffed by some top-notch talent including some ex-SquareEnix folks, are continuing to make waves with upcoming titles like Wild Arms 5, Brave Story: New Traveler, Dungeon Maker: Hunting Grounds and the recently released Valhalla Knights. We recently had a chance to get ...

Undeniably, the PlayStation 2 has served as the preferred platform for role-playing. Sony's PlayStation Portable, on the other hand, skates in the wake of its console counterpart with a string of substandard role-playing games. Valhalla Knights hopes to break this chain with traditional role-playing that focuses on basic mechanics rather than experimental elements. While this emphasis on core role-playing mechanics lends a rather nostalgic feel to Valhalla Knights, it may just be what PlayStation Portable ...

Nearly 20 years after arriving on North American shores, the Dungeon Explorer franchise is set to return and I managed to get my hands on the PSP version of the upcoming title. Dungeon Explorer: Warriors of Ancient Arts is an interesting title coming from Hudson. One wouldn’t expect the company known for Bomberman and other arcade style games to be producing an RPG, but it is on the way to a PSP near you. ...

I missed Gitaroo Man when it originally appeared on the PS2, and heard nothing but good things about it. I was eager to get my hands on the game when Gitaroo Man Lives was announced that it would be arriving for the PSP – and this time feature more content.

I didn’t play the first Killzone on the PS2. Well, that’s not exactly accurate. I played a bit of it before the game’s release, but was disgusted with the controls being entirely too loose to do the review. Having my hands on the PSP sequel gave me pause enough to think that I might want to go back to play the first game (though after figuring out a third party controller that will work ...

Star Trek: Tactical Assault was designed from the “ground up” to be a handheld game, coming to the PSP and DS. It’s a combat oriented title, but has many strategy and RPG elements. The nature of the story will be presented in an episodic format in order to make the player feel that they are taking part in an episode of the series. Just like the shows, each mission will be fraught with choices ...

Konami’s survival horror series is enjoying something of a banner year, with the release of the experimental UMD The Silent Hill Experience as well as the long-awaited Silent Hill movie (which has gone on to be a success at the box office). The time seemed ripe for the announcement of a new entry in the series at this year’s pre-E3 press conference. Rumors flew around about potential game announcements – a next-gen title on ...

Okay, for those that haven’t played it yet, you should know that Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence is quite possibly the best PlayStation 2 game ever made. Yes, I know that’s saying a lot, but it’s not a claim I make lightly. The game is as graphically gorgeous as anything on the system, features an epic and emotional story that’s masterfully written and brilliantly executed, has fun and inventive gameplay that revolutionizes the stealth ...

If you asked people what the best must-have game was for the PSP launch, you might get a few people telling you it was Wipeout Pure or Ridge Racer, but most would probably tell you that the one title that truly made the system worth owning was Lumines. Here was a game that didn't have impressive 3D graphics like those other games, but was filled with style and charm, and backed up by solid ...

Coming pretty soon for the PSP, Lemmings aims to bring back some of those loveable green-haired imbecils for another jaunt at building bridges and digging holes. The preview build of the game looks to fully utilize the PSP as the control scheme works good and the graphics shine. Still though, it's not all that understandable why PSP owners are even seeing a release of this game seeing as how many free versions can be ...

Since its launch nearly a year ago, Sony’s PSP has endured several serious charges against it. “There aren’t enough original titles, just ports.” “The load times are horrendous.” “You can’t do as much with the lack of a second analog stick and two missing shoulder buttons.” “The system can’t deliver the same kind of high-action titles that were promised.” While all of these criticisms have, to one degree or another, had a basis in ...
