Borderlands is a little different from the typical post-apocalyptic RPGs one usually comes across. For the first part, the region one plays in isn’t necessarily post-apocalyptic, but an alien world that is being occupied, and things haven’t necessarily gone well. Secondly, there’s bit more emphasis on the action than on the role playing part of the game, and as a result Borderlands feels a bit like an open-ended first person shooter.
There are plenty of quests ...

It’s my own fault, really, for not paying attention, but I had expected to go into Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 using one character out of many from the beginning to end of the game. I knew that the story involved heroes going up against each other, but I was hoping to take the classic Power Man & Iron Fist duo through the story but I couldn’t use them at the beginning of the game. As ...

When I first saw Katamari Damacy, it was shoved into a corner of Namco’s booth at E3. There were no plans to bring the game to North America, but I tracked down the person who claimed responsibility as a producer or overseer of some sort and begged the game to be brought over. It was so different, so quirky, and so enjoyable. The success has spawned a number of sequels, some of questionable quality, but ...

I don’t know why I am having such a hard time writing this review for LittleBigPlanet: Game of the Year Edition. I played a bit of LittleBigPlanet before and after its initial release, and found it to be quite enjoyable, but hadn’t really spent a whole heck of a lot of time with the game until now. With this new Game of the Year Edition we get not only the full game, but a host ...

Demon’s Souls will kick your ass. This RPG is tough and makes no apologies for it. The subject of death is central to the theme of Demon’s Souls story, and it comes up in the gameplay as well. Players will be able to see the final moments of other players as ghostly images as well as call for help if other players happen to be nearby, but the lack of true online play seems

Here’s what I want to say…
If you like first person shooters, then by all means go and pick up Wolfenstein.
Really, that’s about all there is to it, and should be enough for a review of a game of this type. Unfortunately, I don’t think I can get away with that simple of a review, I have to say what is good about the game and why, as well as what is bad about the game ...

While often there have been halfhearted attempts to bring superheroes to gaming, they are usually just licensed properties of Marvel or DC’s popular characters. What makes the new crop of superhero games stand apart is they are original IP’s. Prototype introduces us to Alex Mercer, and he indeed has his Dark Knight issue grovel voice. His powered are tied to a biological weapon that is slowly infecting all of New York City.

So I'm playing Texas Cheat Em and I have to stop in the middle of a round to go perform some parental duties. I want to save my progress, but am unable to because the game does not allow for it. There is a division between sets (four sets of four each) but within a set you can't save your progress. This is the biggest drawback I see in the game.
See, there are some games ...

UFC is far more popular in the US than boxing at this point, but its pixilated versions haven't enjoyed the same triumph. I am more than sure that a lion's share of UFC's regular PPV audiences has already picked this title up. However, like any licensed title, does the game live as it's own entity?
The short answer is yes. I am not a huge sports gamer, but this game actually manages to keep my interest. ...

Puzzle Quest: Galactrix is a puzzle game that mixes in a healthy dose of role-playing strategy to offer up something different. While it doesn't have the same originality that its predecessor (Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords) had, it changes things up enough to be its own unique spin on the sub-genre it created.
Players take on the role of a ship captain and traipse around the galaxy performing tasks (quests) earning money and materials along ...

Less than five minutes into Wolverine, the player gets a clue that the game isn’t like any other licensed game they've played before. In the opening cutscene, Wolverine and his teammates are in a helicopter on their way to a mission when the chopper gets shot down. The player controls Wolverine as he freefalls, avoiding gun and mortar fire on the way down, only to land hands-first, claws-extended on an enemy who bursts into a cloud ...

Resident Evil 5 brings the franchise to the HD consoles, but the franchise is far from intact. For good and for ill, Resident Evil 5 completes the shift begun in the prior numerical entry. This game only has the endless horde of enemies in common with the original Resident Evil, and they aren't even zombies anymore.
Lest I travel too far down the cranky old man complaining about the comics page route, I will say this ...

So I’m playing Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard and all I can think about is “The Gary Shandling Show” – the sitcom about a sitcom that was far too self-referential to be understood for what it was. In comedy, this works great. In action games, not so much.
Don’t get me wrong, there is plenty to like and enjoy in Eat Lead, but the in-jokes begin to have an air of desperation after a ...

Ever since the launch title Resistance: Fall of Man appeared on PS3 systems, there has been a lot of speculation on what its inevitable sequel would be like. Well, Resistance 2 is here and every expectation was at least been met, if not surpassed. Playing off the idea that the first Resistance title's story did not go well for those of us who are Earth natives, Resistance 2 builds for us a world even more ...

I’m playing Wanted: Weapons of Fate, and wanted (pun not intended) to enjoy the game as much as I did the movie. While I enjoyed the game and found it fun to play, it wasn’t as up to the same level of enjoyment as the movie. Still, it should be noted that as a game it stands on its own, is fun to play, and acts as a natural extension of the film’s storyline – ...

Americans' obsession with anime has entered some strange hybrids into the genre. From the homage of Quentin Tarantino in Kill Bill, Teen Titans and the Transformers reboot both exhibit equal parts anime and Saturday morning cartoons, and then there is Afro Samurai. What can really be said about the combination of Hip-Hop, Samuel L Jackson, and the bloody swordplay of anime? If you haven't gotten a look at the excellent series, go put them in ...

Any time a game is released on one platform, and then ported to another a year later, the game often ends up seeming a bit dated and behind the curve. Unless, of course, that game is markedly ahead of the curve to begin with; such is the case with Bioshock.
A year ago, Bioshock was an action-thriller game that took the Xbox 360 by storm and wowed even us jaded DigNews.com folks enough that we named ...

Well as the adage goes, if at first you don’t succeed, try, and try again. Namco-Bandai seems to have been doing just that with the Naruto games for the Playstation. In fact the big Playstation 3 introduction for the series, Ninja Storm is a retread of the earlier games. How many times do they think that players want to see the same fights, and retread the entirety of the series like some interactive Wikipedia article? ...

Call it a Karaoke Revolution ripoff, a crass money-machine or a very expensive karaoke machine, but Sony’s SingStar karaoke game series is nothing if not persistent. Made available for both the PS2 and PS3, SingStar takes music videos, pops the words on the screen and encourages gamers to sing along. There are both strengths and weaknesses to the series, and since they are fewer in number, let us concentrate on the strengths of SingStar Abba ...

Saints Row 2 leaves me of two minds. What can be said about a title that takes the formula of Grand Theft Auto, strips out all of the grand storytelling, morphs smarmy satire into obvious parody, and goes straight for the prurient interest? This is the type of game that you wouldn’t play with your mom in the room, and no thoughtful protest can defend its existence - but that’s what makes this so ...

I don’t really need to review Singstar Vol. 2 on the PS3, because I kinda’ already reviewed it the last time it was released. That’s right – same game, same problems, and the only major change here is the tracklist. Have a look:
Aerosmith - Dude Looks Like a Lady
Bad English - When I See You Smile
Bobby Brown - My Perogative
Boys Like Girls - Hero/Heroine
Elton John & Kiki Dee - Don't Go Breaking My Heart
Eminem - ...

While some might see The Last Guy as a variation on Pac Man, I instead find the game more aligned with Robotron. With Robotron players were in an area, surrounded by hostile robots attempting to navigate the field and pick up or rescue humans. In The Last Guy players are tasked with going into real world locations and picking up hundreds of human survivors while avoiding the various zombies that roam the streets.

I suppose it was only a matter of time before the SOCOM franchise hit a multiplayer only iteration. As good as the single player games were, multiplayer always proved to be some of the most popular online activities for the PS2. Now that the game has arrived on the PlayStation 3, the new broadband connectivity and processing power of the new console provides a great starting point for a massive online battlefield. I just ...

When Little Big Planet’s servers finally went online days late (and even then crippled with lag), it once again quickly became evident that gamers are a fiercely imaginative and resourceful breed. Within the span of one hour, I saw numerous levels designed to create music, levels designed to demonstrate any number of custom vehicles (rockets, cars, rocket cars, tanks, and I myself contributed a dumpy-looking but highly effective jet plane), levels designed to parody ...
