Dear Videogame Industry,
Harder does not necessarily equal better.
No, I’m not referring Demon’s Souls, the difficulty is inherent in the gameplay. Instead, this is a long-standing complaint that I have, and many others do as well, they just don’t say anything. I’m saying something.
There are a number of ways which difficulty is poorly used. One of the most blatant and pervasive is the varying degree of difficulty within a game, as well as within a level. ...

Digital Entertainment News: What does it feel like to get one of your most renowned titles back?
Dave Grossman: It’s nice and kind of scary. The fans had nine years to form expectations. We focused on getting the core of the franchise right. People have been telling us that we got it right. It is nice to see it out in the world again.
DEN: When developing the new seasons, what steps did you take to keep ...

I had the opportunity to chat with Dr. Greg Zeschuk, one of the founders of the famed development studio at this year’s Penny Arcade Expo. While I was supposed to stick to questions about Dragon Age: Origin, I couldn’t help myself and wound up asking a few other things relating to other titles BioWare has worked on.
When I asked what was new in the game from the last time I had seen it, Dr. Zeschuk ...
The highly anticipated release of The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is quickly approaching, with gamers everywhere getting ready to return to the Riddick universe. We had the opportunity to ask Starbreeze, the developers of both Assault on Dark Athena and the original Riddick hit title Butcher Bay (released in 2004), about the game as well as what Riddick fans can expect from this brand new release.
Q: We understand that you initially decide ...
As I write this, I’m sitting on the airplane, flying home from Los Angeles. It’s Thursday night, and spent the day with Universal examining the game Wanted: Weapons of Fate. It has been a long day, and I look forward to sleeping in my bed, but I also wish I were able to stay the night.
Allow me to explain.
Initially the invitation was to fly down on Wednesday night, spend the night in a hotel and ...
At Nvidia’s booth during the 2009 Consumer electronics Show Motion DSP was showing off the technology that the military uses for video enhancement, such as during spy movies when the agent wants to get a look at the license plate of a car - from space. Well, this is a bit more of a consumer oriented product, but it does the same thing, bringing spy movie technology to the soccer mom.
After watching it in action, ...

I met with Johnathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, and the first thing he asked was if we were doing a video interview or not. Why? Because if we were going to video it, then he would have to continue standing in front of his banner where the lighting is good for the camera. Instead, this was simply him and I talking, so we were able to go, sit, get away from ...

With a focus on connectivity, IOGear has been in the PC market for a while. Now the company is moving towards convergence, between the home and the office, between the PC and the television. There are a number of products, such as a USB Bluetooth dongle as well as a device that converts a serial bus to Bluetooth (such as for schools that have older equipment).
The main focus of the show, however, is the company’s ...

Razer has a few great products in the pipeline, with the star of the show being the Mamba the company’s first wireless gaming mouse. It could have been ready two years ago, but they didn’t want to release a product that wasn’t quire all it should be. All of the complaints with regards to wireless mice have been addressed - battery life, response time, comfort, and more. This is a product that Razer has been ...

Nero is mostly known for its “burning” tools which have evolved into a suite of multimedia tools, such as editing, sharing playback and more. Now the company is moving into taking its applications into a more “mainstream” market with its new release of Nero 9. While there is greater ease of use, the same technology is still under the hood, this isn’t going to be a “stripped down” version.
First up Nero Move It takes all ...
Established in 1974, Buffalo now has 1000 employees worldwide. In Japan the company has over 1000 different products/SKUs, but focuses on a more streamlined offering here in the United States. In the US there are about 100 SKUs, but with memory (such as RAM) that number does increase to approximately 400 - but that does include retail and OEM figures.

At the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show there were plenty of companies showing off their products, but a number of them were also showing off the technolgy that powers those products - or will.

During the 2009 Consumer Electronic Show Mad Catz was showing off the three solutions it has for the Street Fighter fan. First up for $149 is the Tournament Edition FightStick which uses the genuine SANWA arcade cabinet parts. This means that when people want to play “arcade perfect” this is the model to go for.

At this year’s Consumer Electronic Show, SanDisk was showing off the 2Gig SD card for Rock Band, which is simply for brand identification. It is the only licensed memory card for the game. Right now there are no plans for added value content, such as exclusive song downloads, but that is a possibility in the future.
Slot Radio is a new type of MP3 player which comes with a card of 1000 songs for $99.99. This ...

I chatted recently with Toshiba’s Storage Device Division about a few things; most notably the announcement that it’s 500Gigabyte external hard drive is coming. Approximately the size of two decks of cards, this item packs a lot of storage in a small space. The price is also quite phenomenal - $179 is quite cheap. Myself, I’m currently using a 40GB external drive and paid approximately the same amount of money, though that was a few ...

Mike Griffith, President & CEO of Activision headed up a keynote that began with members of the Neversoft development team behind Guitar Hero: Metallica performing “Fuel”. When he did come out, he mentioned that he wanted to talk about how videogames would be eclipsing all other forms of entertainment in the future. The guitar Hero franchise is an example of this where the musical experience taps into two markets, both music and videogames.
Music sales are ...

I had the opportunity to talk to Paul Nerger, Vice President of Advanced Services and Application with Dot Mobi. We had an interesting discussion about the internet, mobile phones, society, technology, and a whole lot more. Mobile phones have changed how we interact with each other as a society - think about what you would want to take out of your house if it were on fire. First cellular phones brought us phoning, then texting, ...

After landing I caught a cab to The Sahara and checked in. My confirmation was for 5 nights, but when I was checking in my reservation was for only 4 nights. I didn't have a problem getting it extended, but I know I'm going to have to go back and talk to somebody at the front desk at some point. I'm worried that the room rate is higher than what I thought it would be. ...
Fallout 3 is a big game. Sure it covers a large geographic area, but that's not what we mean. Yes, this is a deep role-playing game with a massive ammount of customization, but again, that's not what we mean. When we say that Fallout 3 is "big" we are referring to the anticipation that surrounds the title and the story behind its creation. Certainly there is a certain ammount of hype going on, but even ...
