At 21 months he is not really needing both morning and afternoon naps. Depending on when he wakes in the morning, either the morning or the afternoon nap has been good, with the other being … well, a challenge.
One day last week I put Xavier down for his morning nap. I turn on the monitor and hear him playing. This goes on for about a half hour, which is normal. Then it gets quiet. I ...

Hazel, for those of you who didn't know, was a very popular sitcom during the early to mid sixties that was based on a character from Saturday Evening Post comics. The show focuses on Hazel (played by Shirley Booth), the live-in maid for the Baxter family who acts as the sensible hub of this squeaky clean 1960's family. Without her you get the idea that the family would descend into drinking, bloodshed and ...

Tales Of The Abyss is a port of the PS2 role playing game on the Nintendo 3DS. Not having played the original, and only having a working knowledge of the franchise, I knew what I was in for, but it wasn’t like I was playing the game again, or revisiting a familiar friend. Still, it’s a good RPG on a system that doesn’t have the genre well represented as of yet.
As with most Japanese role-playing ...

The latest DC animated movie, Justice League: Doom, takes its inspiration from a story run in the JLA comic about 10 years ago. Instead of Batman’s enemy Ra’s al Ghul as the mastermind behind the coordinated attack against the Justice League, it is Vandal Savage, an immortal man who possesses great intelligence – and a massive stockpile of wealth. He is using a number of villains to do some deeds, the ultimate goal of which ...

When you think of cinema from South America, invariably the first country one might think of is Argentina because of its significant and numerous contributions to world cinema. Perhaps Brazil, because of its size, and the fact that it too does have a decent film culture. Other countries too have been producing films, though not nearly as prolifically or with much technical savvy.
Mandrill is by the Chilean writer/director Ernesto Diaz Espinoza, and other than a ...

One of the best additions to the whole of the Shrek storyline after the first film was the character portrayed by Antonio Banderas now with his own starring feature. Puss In Boots acts as a prequel to the character’s appearance in Shrek 2.
After watching Puss In Boots, I can understand why it was nominated for Best Animated Feature at this year’s Academy Awards. It’s a good film with solid characters, a decent plot, and the ...

The Double, on the surface, is a story about a CIA retiree (Richard Gere) coming back to catch a Russian agent, Cassius, that eluded him before. He is partnered against his will with an up and coming FBI agent (Topher Grace) who has based his career on Cassius. The movie follows the two as they get closer and closer to the truth. Left at that, The Double would have been a much better ...

I wouldn’t say I’m a fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber, but I also wouldn’t dismiss his works outright either. I’ve seen Cats on the stage and enjoyed it. Watched the filmed version of Evita (willingly) in theaters. Productions of Joseph And The Technicolor Dreamcoat and Jesus Christ Superstar are now standards of musical theater. What I think gets lost in all of the talk about these productions was Webber produced the music, not the lyrics ...

When the studio puts the plot of the movie, including some pretty big spoilers, into the trailer, you know that you should save yourself a few dollars. Dream House's trailer tries to sell it as a horror movie, but that doesn't seem to be what I just watched. Instead it feels like one of those generic thrillers that fill HBO's lineup.
Director Jim Sheridan apparently clashed with the production company, and even went so far as ...

Some days just suck. No matter what you’re doing, noting seems to go right. I was having one of those days when the DVD set for “Underdog” arrived, and my day turned completely around. I grew up watching “Underdog” – not when it was first broadcast, but instead as a syndicated Saturday morning offering, back when local stations would pick up other cartoons to pad out their weekly animation block.
“Underdog” takes me back to my ...
