I had the opportunity to chat with Hudson Entertainment President and CEO John Greiner the other dayearlier this month. While I had to end our chat earlier than I had hoped in order to catch a flight, what we did have time to talk about was very interesting.
What direction you want to take Hudson?
“We’re Hudson Entertainment.” Remarked Mr. Greiner. Having started out in the realm of mobile entertainment, such as music downloads, ringtones, etc., ...

I’m not going to go too much into detail regarding the plot of “Battlestar Galactica” because by this point you’ve either watched it or you haven’t. If you’re reading this you obviously know a little something about the series. It’s rather hard not to. As one of the best shows on television, the emphasis on human drama is what sets this show apart from almost everything out there, regardless of science fiction.
“Battlestar Galactica” takes ...

“Saturday Night Live” has been on the air for over 30 years, and much like any band, the output over that span of time varies in quality. With any rotating membership, people will have their favorites, and having grown up with the “not ready for primetime players” I have a certain affection for the original cast. This second season saw the first change with Chevy Chase departing to embark on a movie career and ...

There was a lot of promise behind Legend of the Seven Monks with both Sonny Chiba and Yasuaki Kurata. These two Japanese action legends are featured prominently on the cover and in the promotional material because these two never have appeared together – until now. Unfortunately neither one is the star of the film. Instead, that honor goes to Ayumi Kinoshita.
See, many years ago, a battle was fought where the monks guarding the gateway ...

I’m a Tony Bennett fan, and have always like his his voice and style of song presentation. I was looking forward to watching The Music Never Ends anticipating a career overview. Imagine my disappointment when I watched this only to find a very glossy, and short, introduction to this wonderful singer.
The documentary is wonderfully put together from a wealth of sources. Tony Bennett is interviewed and there are loads of archival clips. Interspersed throughout ...

Those of us that grew up playing pen and paper RPGs will certainly appreciate what The Witcher has to offer. Unlike many of today’s games that throw in a lot of swearing, violence and perhaps a topless woman or two in order to demonstrate how “adult” they are, The Witcher tackles adult themes in an adult manner. Sure, there’s a fair bit of gratuitous and visceral adult trappings to be found here, but the ...

I likes me some Godzilla. This little fact is certainly common knowledge to those that actually know me. I’ve never been a closet fan of guys in rubber suits, instead wearing my admiration for the art form firmly on my sleeve. Yes, I know “art form” is a bit much, but it helps to get my point across.
The last few games have been pretty decent brawlers, and when I took an early look at ...

Zombie movies are a bit overdone, but Danny Boyle gave the genre a shot in the arm with his artful 28 Days Later. Its sequel is missing Boyle at the helm, although he was in charge of some second unit direction, and retained his role as a producer. While he keeping some creative involvement, 28 Weeks Later loses an essential spark of life that the original thrived on.
28 Weeks Later unfortunately does ...

Viva Pinata: Party Animals represents the latest step into a burgeoning mass market by Microsoft Game Studios. Building on the under-appreciated Viva Pinata, this party game offshoot succeeds in reviving the paper-mache cast of characters in a new game geared toward kids. While it has a bunch of blatant flaws, the party doesn't stop for children in Party Animals. A charming presentation and loads of mini-games counter a general lack of fun. Adults will quickly ...

When some companies update their sports games, the changes from release to release are so minor, so cosmetic, it would make Jane Iredale jealous enough to look into IP infringement. That’s not the case with Wolverine Studios and developer Gary Gorski.
2007 has been a banner year for Gorski and Wolverine; they began the year updating their pro basketball game into the well-received Draft Day Sports: Pro Basketball, them releasing the second iteration of their pro ...

Don’t think of me as a Farrelly brothers hater, but I found The Heartbreak Kid unfunny and slow. For the most part I like the writer/director brother duo, but here they seem to have lost their footing. Ben Stiller is Eddie, a commitment-wary man exiting his 30’s. We get about 20 minutes or so of exposition setting up his character and how he is alone. The scene where he attends his ex-girlfriend’s wedding lasts ...

Perhaps one of the most disturbing aspects of Season Three of the ABC suspense drama Lost is how it humanized the mysterious group known as The Others. Although Michael Emerson’s Henry Gale/Ben Linus benefited most from this, the actor who made it the most chilling was M.C. Gainey in his role as Tom.
When the man whose voice for so long had been identified with the unknown evil of The Others turns to ...

Does this series even need an introduction? The modern science fiction landscape would be a vast wasteland were it not for “Star Trek” and the imagination of Gene Roddenberry. Taking what was considered lower than kiddie fare and giving it characters and situations that were adult in nature not only changed the genre, but television as well.
The most popular type of series at the time “Star Trek” was being developed was the Western ...

Listen Hollywood, I’m going to level with you. You aren’t journalists. I know that so-called “issue movies” are Oscar buzz right out of the can, but Iraq? Considering that most new outlets can barely tell a coherent narrative of what’s going on with the war and its veterans, what makes you think that hundred million dollar drama can? I can give you that Home of Brave has great intentions, making an updated War at ...

I don’t think it would be too outlandish to say that the PlayStation Network has had an odd first year, especially when compared to its closest competitor, Xbox Live. While Xbox Live Arcade has seen numerous top-notch games in established genres, it seems like most of the high-profile games featured on the PlayStation Network seem to aim for more bizarre and experimental territory. Titles like flOw and Loco Roco Coccorecho in particular are so ...

Undersea combat has never been so frantic, as it is in Chair’s Undertow. The XBLA release brings an interesting take on arcade shooters. Set in a world where aliens have melted the ice caps, and left humanity to survive in the deep. The battle mechanics seem more out of Battlefield than Robotron 2084, but the system delivers a game that works well in both single and multiplayer modes. The dual-stick control scheme is something ...
